Celebrate the end of Summer

The end of summer is always bitter sweet. I'm happy to say goodbye to hot weather and look forward to colorful fall leaves and using quilts.
The last blooms of my hollyhocks are falling off. They are one of my favorite flowers.
The end of summer means extra time in the kitchen. I was glad to have a long weekend to get some of that kitchen preserving done with extra hands. Thanks to my family for helping. Labor Day for us means lots of labor. We dried peaches.
And made salsa. I think we bottled over 35 jars and kept a fresh batch aside to eat. I'd like to make more salsa before the first frost depending on the supply of tomatoes and my time demands.
I wish I could show you what I've been working on this weekend in my sewing room. I'm using the latest RJR "Everything But the Kitchen Sink" line that will be released this winter and shown at fall Quilt Market next month. The fabric has over 30 fabrics and is a great 30's line with a mix of geometric and floral prints. Above is one of my block designs for the projects. I made great progress with what I need to get done in the last few days. So I'm feeling like I will be successful meeting deadlines.

The dried peaches and salsa will be so yummy in the middle of winter. Wish I had that preserving bug.

Those peaches look yummy and so does the salsa. :-) Summer was blown out the door here in Minnesota with 40 MPH wind gusts and temps barely in the 60's! I love cooler weather because it's more enjoyable to work with fabric when it's cool. The new project looks like a basket full of fun.

WOW!! I basically did nothing yesterday. Your labors look wonderful. I best get busy today--now that the house is quiet and I can concentrate :)!! Have a great day. Julie

Nanette...
I'm so glad that you are playing with that fun fabric and making good progress.
I know it feels good to have the salsa canned and the peaches dried...summers end always means storing for the winter!
I still have more to do...

Good grief, Nanette, I'm tired now just reading about what you've been doing. (And I'll be willing to bet you haven't even told the half!) I love the sight of all that produce preserved for your family's use. Beautiful. Almost as pretty as your quilts. :)

I'm not a big fan of the heat, so the end of summer is readily welcome at our house! You have been so busy. How do you do it all? Can't wait to see the projects you've been working on :)

I'd love some of that salsa-we use it a lot! But I just buy mine in a jar or make Salsa Fresca. Do you have a great recipe for yours?

Labor day was full of labor at your place, for sure! No food is grown at my house other than avocados--next year's crop is a grand total of TWO fruits on our dwart Hass. Pathetic!

Glad you're getting some fabric playtime too.

Since I don't have ANY 30's fabrics, I will need to check out this new line of RJR fabrics when it hits the stores! Your peach slices look SO yummy!
