Cottages Revisited and Table Runners

I've been sewing table runners and really enjoying making more cottages and little houses to star in them. The cottages and doll houses are addicting because I can dress each one to be unique and be a builder of fabric houses.
Above is a quilted and completed table runner in red, green and yellow. It is hard to get a photo of the entire length of a table runner all in one shot.
So I'll show the runners in chunks. These table runners are going on vacation with me in 2 weeks. I wonder why??
I quilted it myself to enhance the architecture of each little cottage. It was fun but it took forever.
I think I got it this one too long though. We'll see how it works out. And I made another one. This one is in green and yellow with the Blank Quilting border in a frosty green.
It isn't quilted yet but I hope to take care of that this weekend.
I really like sewing the rick rack like this after seeing Diane put rick rack in her pot holder. It totally finishes the cottages off.I used the yellow back ground of the same Blank Quilting fabric (thanks Janean!) to make yet another cottage runner. Both color ways of the border fabric are a perfect finishing touch.More quilting to do this weekend. I know there are a lot of these pictures but I couldn't stop making the cottages!
I am almost out of that orange fabric that the roof is made out of on the left. It is vintage and I've used it and reused it for the past 5 years. I wish I could get more of it.
I also used my Tumbler Bows baby quilt pattern to make a table runner with a different theme. You can't make too many runners ya know.
I still want to make a couple more toppers/runner. We'll see how much time I have and how much I get quilted Saturday. I'm not through yet!

Stick with me a little longer for a big treat post. You've got to visit Sarah and see her beautiful cottage quilt and play by play of her visit with the famous and lovely Monica. Both Sarah and Monica are so incredibly talented. I really enjoy reading both of their blogs and getting to know them. It was surprising to me to read several blogs this week and see so many of us meeting with each other in the real world. I just wish I could have been along with each little meeting. I can't wait to read Sarah's next installment of her visit in Monicaland.

I can't say enough how cute these are....funny...I got a runner 'sanwiched' this weekend too...but mine is a total opposite of yours...I would have machine quilted mine already but I think it needs variegated thread...not one spool of this in the house....and since I'm 65 miles from the closest 'gettin' place'...it's draped across the banister waiting for my next trip to the 'big city'....LOL...I'm sure you wanted to know all of this...must be the extra caffine I had this morning......anyway, love your cottages!!

I wish I could see these in person. You've inspired me to start a collection of conversation prints - on a theme. Just, well, FUN!!!

And ... the way you pieced the tumblers is such a great idea. Love it!!!

Hmmm.. wonder where all those table runners are ending up. :-D

You are so right.. the ric-rac applied that way just makes the house look like it has scalloped trim along the roof.. like on a real cottage. LOVE it. I can't decide which one I love the best. they are all wonderful.

Off to read sarah's blog..

Oh Nanette... I wish you could have been there too! Road trip west, ok! Mi casa es su casa... ANYTIME! Did you hear a big thump about 10 minutes ago? That was me falling out of my chair after I read your comment on Sarah's post. Tiz I who feels that way about you!

And a part of you was at Karen's studio... Sarah showed-n-told her cottage quilt, as well as she had her "Nanette bag" with her. Next time we'll have to get all of you there - not just bits and pieces.

I love your runners and how you flip flopped the houses. That is GENIUS!!! And I love, "be a builder of fabric houses". Love that. Love you!

Hi Nanette,
You have been one busy lady and love all of it. I was just telling my husband and son that I could build something out of lumber, since I sew. They just laughed, but I really think we have a head start on construction.
You put together those houses so cute, anyone would love to live in them.

Wow! You have a gift.

I've been enjoying your blog. I would love for you to come and visit my blog as well, www.sewingwithtrudy.blogspot.com .

My 8 year old daughter has her own sewing blog. If you would like to see what she's up to, go to www.sewingsister.blogspot.com . She is currently learning how to hand sew. In a few weeks she will start learning how machine sew. She is very excited. Her six year old brother is also featured on her blog. He has been sewing right along with us. It's been a lot of fun sharing this with them.
