Fat Eighths for FF Friday

Along with charm packs, layer cakes, jelly rolls, fat quarters, etc. I love fat eighths. They are harder to come by but hold a good value. The down side is that you have to be very careful how you cut out so that you can use every little tiny bit.
I had the opportunity to get 3 little packs of fat eighths in 5 color ways each. This first is my favorite above. I had some yardage of these cute little apples in white and red that I used in my new quilt "Kettles in the Kitchen". I really love the little apple shapes, little flowers, buds and leaves. I think sweet is the best word to describe it.
Another little set of fat eighths is this floral dot combination. I like the brown especially because it is the unexpected color. I have to credit Pam with finding this fabric. I think I'd describe it as being a combination between darling and delicious.
I love bows and flowers. This neutral background group of fat eighths is just plain cute. It is so cute that I don't think I could cover it up with applique or use it as a supporting fabric. It needs a starring roll in the perfect quilt. Since I don't have much in quantity I won't really be able to fussy cut so I have to find the right project so the little bows and flowers have center stage.
In a totally different direction I have these half yard Christmas prints in 2 color ways. Remember I'm going to TRY to start on Christmas projects early this year. (Disclaimer: When I made that goal I had no idea I'd have a wedding and be a new grandma in October. I'm just saying you might not see as much Christmas activity out of me this fall as I had planned.) Originally I thought this would be used for Christmas stockings. And it still may be used for that. But I also can see a table runner with Christmas Cottages in a row and this amazing fabric as a border. I think it is the sweetest Christmas fabric ever and it will only require 1 border and look like sooo much more. That is why it is amazing.

Hot hot hot here today and tomorrow with possible rain on Sunday. You know I love that weekend rain. Happy weekend sewing.

I want to go fabric shopping with you! I'll be quiet I promise, I'll just be your shadow and whatever you get I'll sneakily slip into my basket. :) And I love your Kettles in the Kitchen quilt, and your Sunbonnet Sues are looking gorgeous!! x

Great fabrics! I love that you highlighted fat eighths. They get a lot less air time in the quilting world than their big brother, the fat quarter.

That Christmas fabric is so cute and would work perfect as border to your cottages. My daughter was so surprised when I gave her a set of finished Halloween cottages. Later in September she's coming for a visit and we'll so them all together. I need to finish the set of cottages for my quilt by then so I will have to hustle. You are right ..... with a wedding and a new baby in the family, you will probably not be doing so many Christmas projects but that's okay. Weddings and babies are so special that they take precedence!! Take lots of photos as you'll be so busy with them that you'll need photos to remind you of what went on! Been there and if it weren't for the pictures, I wouldn't be able to remember the events! We have had refreshing rain here for the last three days so I hope you get some, too. Have a great weekend!

You know, I never think much of fat eights but it sure is a good way to add to the stash if you are, as you say, careful with your cutting. The other think I like - the brown. I'm a brown fabric girl anyway but seeing the brown sells me on the whole grouping!

I can see the Christmas fabric in your cottages too. You have such a knack for finding the perfect fabrics.

Gorgeous fabric Nanette! Our tastes are soooooooo similar ... and I adore those Christmas pieces. Both will make awesome borders :)

I vote for the Christams fabric as a scalloped border on a table runner. I would just love to see that. Provided, of course, that you all are doing the work :)

I love the ribbon and bows fabrics - very soft and romantic looking.
I have not bought fat eighths but have bought a number of fat quarters- still trying to find the best usage for both as I usually make large quilts.
I can see you are going to have a very busy fall making quilts for some very special people in your life.
Warmest regards,
Anna

Ohhh such wonderful bits and pieces. I like smaller pieces as well..then its gone and you make room for a new lovely fabric. Some of my older projects have all the regular suspects and they all start to look alike after a while. I always love what you choose!!! xo

Oh yes...I love fat eighths....buying smaller pieces enables you to have a larger 'selection' in your stash....like 'baby bear' would say at Goldilocks house...."it is j-u-s-t right"!!

You are so right, fat eighths can be fabulous to have in your stash and are hard to come by. I love what you have! Don't worry about the non activity of Christmas things. They will get done eventually.
