Lone Star or Bethlehem Star - more

This is slow going girls. Slower than I'm used to. You're going to get sick of my progress by the time I get all 8 points completed, put together, bordered and quilted. I'm just warning you.
I'm mostly satisfied with how it is turning out. And I'm unpicking less in this 2nd group of diamonds.
Pinning right where I need to stitch has helped me. It helps to stick the pin right into the existing stitching lines and checking both sides to make sure the seams are where they need to be in relationship to each other.
It's turning out a little wild. A little scrappy. I'm not sure at this point about borders yet. We'll see. But It has to be very plain.
Monday both Pam and Monica mentioned in their comments about the Bethlehem Star pattern in the Quilts Quilts Quilts book. It is a great basic quilt book that should probably be in every quilter's library. Why didn't I think of looking in my book before buying a new pattern!? I will try not to make that mistake again.
It helped me to read through the pattern though and I will be changing how I put my next group of strips together.
I do like the stars on the outside border too. Though I'm not sure I'll do that. But it was good to see how this quilt is finished off in the book. I may be surfing google looking for pictures of Bethlehem and Lone Star quilts. It is fun to see what is out there.

So now, back to sewing diamonds.

Nanette-
I think it looks great and it looks like your working out the process...it will now go faster instead of slower.
I really LOVE the scrappiness which for me ryhmes with happiness!
LOL
I just really love it Nanette and I also think the stars in the border might be really cute...I'm just sayin....not to add to the stress of a deadline or anything.

That is one of my most favorite patterns. I have yet to make it though. It does seem like it would be a little tedious and you have to have the time to tackle it. But it looks like from all aspects you are doing very well. I love it!

Looking great Nanette! Thanks for posting the tip about the book -- I wouldn't have thought to look there either. I love that book!

Looks like you're doing a wonderful job!! There's a lone star interfacing grid you can buy. You can see it here.

You could always try it on the second quilt. :)

I bought the interfacing for a class with my guild, but unfortunately I was out of town and haven't gotten around to making the quilt yet.

That is fantastic! I want to do one of those but a little scared to start in case I mess it up. Have been doing hexagons and they're difficult enough!

Looks like it is coming together beautifully. The 3rd quilt I made was a very small Bethlehem Star wallhanging. I was too novice a quilter to know how difficult it was going to be! It tested my patience and taught me some skills and I can tell you that I hang it proudly! I would like to tackle a large one some day but that will be in the distant future. I look forward to seeing yours completed!

You are more brave than I am, someday I just might attempt this quilt as I do love it so. And I think I have that book at home(at work right now) will have to pull my box of books out and look.
Good luck, it is looking beautiful.

Wow! It looks amazing! I really want to do one of these. I am interested to see how you attach the squares and triangles to complete the top. That part has always seemed confusing to me.

It's really a wonderful quilt! I found it helpful to pin the diamonds when making my diamond Christmas stocking as well. Like you, I also need to remember to check my books for patterns before running out to buy a new one!

Sometimes it just feels good to sew something that's not easy, doesn't it?
Love your fabric selections of course, the solids reallymake it for me!

WOW...OH I LOVE the scrappy-ness of it. I have had that pattern for a long time...I get it out occasionally and look at it and then put it right back up. Fons and Porter did a segment on it too which I taped for future reference. I can see it DOES take a lot of patience...hang in there!!

I love your fabric choices. Looks like you've got the knack of those pesky diamonds. However, I'd like you to know about C & T Author Jan Krentz. She has a wonderful book about Lone Stars and a DVD on the topic. She demystified all sorts of things about Lone Stars and has developed some nifty tricks to get all those points pointy and matching without making yourself nuts! Jan also teaches a slick method to do the set in squares and triangles without doing set-in piecing!!! How happy and lucky the people will when then unwrap this lovely quilt!

It's coming along beautifully Nanette! And it's doing so very quickly! Absolutely love the fabrics you've chosen :)

That is a wonderful quilt! You won't believe it but that was my first quilt.. I made one back in 1980 when I didn't have a rotary cutter.. I used templates and scissors.. I was crazy! I hand quilted it and used polyester fabrics and batting because I didn't know any better back then.. boy we have come a long way baaaby! Thanks for you comments.. time seems to be charging on and no time to do it all. PS.. I will be teaching 1 class at the retreat (Hopefully if people sign up!) thanks for your encouragement.. I would love to take a class from you!

It is going to be a lovely quilt, Nanette. I recently worked with diamonds for the first time, and pinning really made things easy :-)

Your quilt is coming along beautifully, can hardly wait to see the finished product. Thanks for the hint on a good book, it may have to join my growing library.
You must really be stressed to forget the Alpine Quilt Group meeting. Don't worry, you'll get done in time.

I love that book, it was my very first quilting book, that and Rotary Riot and I made do with just those two for years. I don't know if there just weren't as many books or if I was just more self-controlled lol! Your star is lookin' good :)

That's an extraordinary project! I'm impatient to see your quilt done!!! Good luck:)
