I will Not fall behind I will Not fall behind

I'm making the block of the month quilt-a-long with our Alpine Group. The quilt is designed by Jina Barney. And I'm really having fun with it. Last year I got behind in our 2009 project and I won't let that happen this year. No matter what I'm keeping pace with Jina.
You can find the pattern for this month's block at Jina's website here. This month being March, Jina designed a pinwheel block to add to our progress. I love being able to making the blocks and sewing them to the other blocks immediately.
So here is my quilt so far. I've pinned it over another quilt on the wall to keep it in my mind at all times. I'm not so sure yet about the black and white dots I put as filler strips. I have been thinking about taking them out. But I want to use black and white dots here and there in the whole quilt so it is hard to judge at this point if it will balance out or not. Hopefully it will.
My sweet friends down under had lots of questions about Peeps. You can read about Peeps here (beware, there is crazy music). But I'll tell you what they are. They are a frothy marshmallowy confections with a granulated colored sugar outer coating. They kind of melt in your mouth. I like them soft allover or just a little crunchy on the outside but soft in the inside. So a couple hours with the package open will give the crunch. Some like them harder. It is an acquired taste. Individually they are quite a sugar punch but if you just eat one they are only 28 calories. Not too bad if you can contain yourself. They used to just come out only at Easter time as an Easter candy but they've been making them for most holidays in other shapes other than chicks and bunnies. They even make them in chocolate covered. Fun to eat. I did put mine in a zip lock bag (after reading your suggestions) and now I can space out the sugar rush and have them stay fresh.

I love your pep talk to yourself at the beginning of this post. I have 2 partially finished BOMs in my closet, so it's good to make yourself keep up when you are in the process.

Oh I didn't know they made "chocolate covered peeps" Nanette!!! They sound quite dangerous to say the least :) Your BOM is coming along quite niceley; and IMHO, I love the "black dots :)" Those pinwheels are adorable! I'll be cheering you on my dear ... no "falling behind" allowed ya hear :)

Hi Nanette!

I just love how your BOM is turning out. I am really drawn to the colors, especially the red! I like how you have added the black, which creates a great contrast to the others.

BTW-Thanks for letting us know about the chocolate covered PEEPS!

Love your motto..."I will not fall behind!" I must borrow that!

Nanette, your BOM is gorgeous - I am in love with all the black and white polka dots!

Now to any aforementioned Australians wanting to know about Peeps - being a Kiwi living in the States (I also lived in Oz for a bit) I can pretty confidently tell you that you are not missing out by not having Peeps - in my humble opinion they are disgusting lol!! Some food stuff in the States is awesome (thinking Mexican food here!) but Peeps? Not one of the awesome things! They look good, and you get tricked into thinking they will be delicious - then you take a bite and are hugely disappointed! So sorry Nanette - can you tell I'm not a Peeps fan? lol!! I am a Nanette fan though ;)

I just love your pinwheels! Your fabric selection is wonderful, to die for to be exact. I definitely put peeps in a ziploc bag after opening them. I think I may have to get you some of the chocolate covered ones!

Peeps, yuck!! I agree with Joanna, not representive of what candy wonders the US has to offer! lol
Love the start of the quilt, I too am working on pinwheels and loving them. Keep up the good work.

I have a new favorite website, I think my heart rate is increased just listening to that music. If that doesn't make a person feel happy I don't know what will (even if you don't like peeps - you got to love the website).

I LOVE the b&w polkies with the aqua -- very fresh and pretty!

Your BOM is so sweet! live those colors.

Peeps, oh a guilty pleasure. Do you really them one at a time? I have been good an not had one in a long time, mostly becuase if I give in an have one I will eat them all then head back to the store. As mentioned, they are quite disgusting, but they are addicting.

I need desperately to adopt your...
"I will not fall behind" moto. I am going to put that up on my wall in my quilting room.
Your quilt is coming along so nicely. I love black in 30's quilt...
but the polka dot piece may be a little strong. What about using the reverse... white with black polka dot, or an aunt gracie black with print. Just a suggestion! I know what ever you decide it will be great as are all of your quilts. :)

I love your BOM Nanette .... and I totally understand your predicament cos I'm about 4 years behind with my BOM!!! It just keeps getting shoved aside for other stuff to be done LOL.
The peeps look yummy too, don't think they'd last long enough with me to go in a ziplock though, I have a sweet tooth {{sigh}} ;o).
Hugs,
Joy :o)

With all the people who read your blog, you really should get some kind of residual for promoting Peeps. Now the world is informed!
Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!

If you put splashes of the black dotted fabric here and there, it will all balance out. If that were the ONLY time you were using that fabric, then it would stand out too much......but you will be okay when you put it in some other places, too.

Oh, yes....yesterday I mentioned the Peeps contest. Here is a link where you can see some of the completed "scenes" from last year's contest. I think this contest is held annually, so there may be new ones online soon. Some people are either very clever OR have too much time on their hands....LOL

oooh nanette - your blocks are so very pretty! Your patchwork is so beautiful and your fabric choices so delicate that you always inspire me to put aside my plans for the day and just whip out the fabric and start piecing! Wishing you and your family a lovely weekend with lots of grandchildren cuddling and stitching :-)

Maybe it's a good thing we don't have peeps in Aussie. The blocks are wonderful, I'll cheer you on with it. I have a couple of bom's being totally neglected at the moment.

Mystery solved! Thanks for explaining - they sound delicious! Those little chicks are cute :) And the fabric in your pinwheels is gorgeous!

Keep up the pace Nanette! You can do it...I seem to be falling behind on my BOM's lately. It's sad. I feel much better when I keep up!
See you in a few days!

And I HAD to check out the Peeps blog... I can't get the smile off my face, even though Peeps aren't my favorite. (But that does not stop me from eating them anyway!! I'm a total sucker for sugar in ANY form! :D

I like the b/w dot sashing, wait until you're done with the whole project before you rip out what you have!

Never been a fan of peeps, I would always trade mine for CHOCOLATE!

Those chocolate covered ones sound dangerous, perhaps Janet got it right 'thank goodness we don't have them here" I have enough trouble at this time of the year with Cadbury Creme Eggs, yummy!
