My Family HIstory Flag Quilt

I've recently picked up 4 out of 5 latest quilts from the quilter. And now I'm in the process of binding. Binding is "in front of the TV work". Good thing too, because I caught a summer cold and that is about all I've felt like doing the past few days. The first quilt I finished binding was my Family History Personal Flag quilt.I had a swirl/star pattern machine quilted into the quilt. Kind of hard to see in photos.
I really like how it turned out. It is a full sized quilt - just big enough to use or to hang.
I'm really proud to show off my family heritage. I think my parents would both be really proud of the quilt and to have their parents represented in my quilt.
I like the stars in the top and bottom borders, too. It makes me want to make an entire quilt with red and blue stars.
And I like the roses in the blue border. I think it pulls everything together.
I bound it in a red with smaller white dots, in contrast to the sashing of white with large dots. The backing is a blue and white gingham I had on hand.
We had a visit with my daughter Chelsey and granddaughter Allison recently (Allison's mom is my daughter Whitney). Chelsey lives in California. And when she comes to Utah we love to have Whitney bring Allison over, too. This photo was taken right after Aunt Chelsey cut Allison's hair. It turned out really cute.

I have been thinking, thinking, thinking of what I want my heritage flag quilt to look like. I'm leaning towards making one for my grandchildren with all of their heritage. My SIL is 1/2 Cuban and even their flag is red, white and blue. Goes perfectly with the U.S. and English flags. But my heritage is Germany and the black and gold really don't mix well. How did you handle the different colors from each flag?

Oh, Nanette, I love your flag quilt. It did turn out so pretty, and I think you made PERFECT fabric choices throughout.

Chelsey is gorgeous, and Allison - oh my, she's growing up so fast, and so pretty, too!

I love it Nanette!... And finished for the 24th is perfect timing. I agree, I think a quilt with red white and blue stars would be so fun to make!...
Allisons hair looks adorable too.
I hope you get feeling better...we have plans this week!

I love, love, love, the flag quilt. Is this a design you came up with or a pattern. My oldest son is very, very proud of his British and Scottish heritage and would love a quilt with the flags. It is beautiful and you did an amazing job.

We are USU alum in our house but the little one in the red t-shirt sure is a cutie!

Again, thanks for sharing.

I was just thinking I wanted to do this with the countries I've lived in. I was thinking that I don't want Slovakia because of the crest. Thanks for showing me that it's possible!! Now, I have to decide if I want to do the Ukraine or Soviet flag. It was Soviet when I was there, but I'm still not sure I want a hammer @ sickle on my quilt. lol
