Babies & a New Notion Bag

They say that pregnancies come in 3's -- and I am well over my quota for this year.

I am most excited about Whitney (my sister), of course, I have already purchased a few items from Etsy -- and have a number more earmarked, specifically for her.

Excited about her pregnancy, I asked my dad (Mr. Hive) how he would feel about owning a shirt that said Grandpa since 2009. As excited as he is about having a grandchild - he wasn't very keen on the idea of broadcasting his Grandfather status. My mom (Nanette) is even worse - don't make the mistake of calling her "Grandma" -- she is horrified by that title. Instead, she insists that she will be called "Nanny".Oh well, on to baby news that will affect me more immediately. On Thursday at work we are holding a baby shower for a co-worker of mine during the lunch hour. Due to the sheer number of friends/co-workers needed to be invited to this shower- we just decided to hold the shower at work in a conference room. In addition to a few items I have gotten from Etsy, I have knitted a reversible hat and some cable-knit socks as a shower gift. These are both from Debbie Bliss' book "Baby Essentials". Also, this weekend, my box that I keep my knitting notions in broke - so I had to come up with a solution very quickly. I had some fabric lying around from a later-abandoned project that I decided to make into a bag and some gray fabric to use as a lining and handle. I approximated the pattern from the size that I wanted, and added a pocket for extra storage. It is certainly not perfect, but I like the way it turned out, and it works exactly the way I want it to.-

When the baby comes your mom won't care if she's called Nana, or Nanny or Grandma or Gamma. She'll be happy with whatever that little grandchild comes up with. I'm called Grandma Skeeter by my grandson because when he was little and would come to visit he loved to see me his Grandma and our dog, Skeeter. Pretty soon it was just combined together and that's how it still is. His other Grandma is called Grandma Brady because her dog is Brady. LOL!! Your knitted projects are darling as always. :-)

Aaaww - baby things - always a happy thing to look at. Beautiful hat and booties. I'm hopeless at knitting - really admire those who can do it so beautifully.

I agree with Sandi...once that new baby starts to call your mom ANY name, she'll be hooked on it. I never cared what the grandchild(ren) wanted to call me, just not what my kids called their fraternal grandmother (since I didn't find her a particularly loving grandma).

That being said, I love your items. Really cuts. I can knit and crochet a bit, but not really great at it.

Hugs

Tell your mom and dad that once they kiss the cheeks of that little grandbaby they will be thrilled with the title of grandma and grandpa. When my little grandson says the words it melts me through and through.

Thanks for posting the book you used for the knit patterns. I have a hat to do and love yours.

The saying is form follows function. Your bag is perfect as long as it does what you need - and it's cute, too!

My brother couldn't stand the thoughts of "grampa" so he decided on an acronym of 'guy with a daughter with a daughter', something like gadad. Cute booties!

Cute stuff! I love your bag!

My mom doesn't like being called Grandma, but when her grandson says it, she answers anyway (and without too much protesting).
