Picture books to enjoy over and over and over and . . .

So my summer reading (well not reading but you know what I mean) material arrived in the mail. I will take these books everywhere with me and enjoy the inspiration.

June/July 2009 Cotton time and I have no idea what the other books are called because they have no names written in English. The book in the front is ISBN 978-4-391-62719-0. And the other book ISBN number is at the end of this post. I'll show you a few things inside. But just a few!
Most everything is really small inside the books and I've learned to enlarge most of the projects.
Super cute fabric and design. Enlarge and enjoy. That stitching book is so cute.
How fun. A lanyard neck chain made from yo yos. Who would have thought that?
More scrappy cute little projects. I like the 3d flowers. Sweetness.
Busy busy busy quilts. Just the type I like. More is definitely better.
This fabric has my name on it. I'm sure. It says Yuwa Live Life Collection. I googled that and found nothing even close to that print. I'll cross my fingers and hope it is coming somewhere.
Now this is something I thought would make a really cute Christmas ornament - covered button wreath. But I would make it in Christmas colors. So incredibly fun. I guess I would need a metal ring or wire.I've always always wanted to make a real braided rug but the task is way over my head. This is something else I want to make. A braided hot pad or trivet. And that apron next to it is something else, too, with appliqued flower pockets.
I'm going to make this project sometime. It is just so cute. I can handle braiding something small like this. Can't I? Okay well again, I would make it bigger but not too big.
Since when did scrunchies come back in style? Seriously. I haven't seen them in anyone's hair around where I live. Have you? I can tell you I'm not going to be making these. I guess everything old is new again!
Cute bags. The Cotton Time mag had quite a few bags that I really liked but was generally light on other things I would actually make. And I hate when they have clothes patterns in the Cotton Time for obvious reasons.
I thought the little log cabin blocks were absolutely wonderful. Look at the little bag made from a log cabin. Super cute, isn't it. Oh I love it, and look at the lace on the sides.I like the both of the books better than the Cotton Time magazine issue. This book above was really pretty good but it is hard to choose a favorite between the two books. Here is the ISBN number for this one. ISBN978-4-413-10908-6. I am glad I have all 3. Together they will supply plenty of fabric and sewing dreams.

Edit - Thanks to Paige's comment I will add her info on the titles. She retained her HS Japanese! Good for Paige. "The first one says "Hana iro Kiruto", which is "Flower Color Quilts" literally. The one under that says "Hagire no Aidia Nooto" which is roughly "Scrap Idea Book". "

I would buy those books just for the covers alone.. love all the colors in them, and like you.. the busy-ness especially!
Wonder if you could find that fabric using the word Bambi or Disney..?

I see why you like these! The pictures are so bright and cheery and it looks like the diagrams are all anyone would need. And the projects look both fun and useful. Yes, you could braid a hot pad. Definitely.

Did you notice in that one fabric it said 'stroll of bear'? How cute is that!

I can not wait to see what you make out of these yummy books!! I love them!

The detail, I think, is what makes these books so attractive. And there's something so nostalgic about the pictures, too, don't you think? Were these birthday presents???

Super cute stuff Nanette! I've always wanted to make a braided rug too, but oh, the fabric! It just seems like it would take so much and that stuff's ex-pen-sive!!!

Lots of inspiration for you.

Some really cute things...I love the zippered "book" to hold sewing things.

I love the books, too. I have a couple of them and I just sit and look through them, while wishing I could read Japanese.

I posted a butterfly quilt on my blog today that I got from an antique shop. If you have time, can you look at the butterflies themselves (the sashing is dreadful) and maybe be able to tell what year the fabrics are?

I love buying those Japanese quilt books! Their illustrations are so well done that not being able to read the words isn't much of an issue! Those 2 books look like great ones!!

Ok, I think this is what you need to do, start a lending library!!! I promise we would all take good care of you books, we could all sign the inside cover and you could show your children how many states or countries, it has been to!!!

Sometimes I get scared when I read your blog. I have the book with the cute apron in it, just got it on a recent trip to the Japanese bookstore. I really wanted that pink one but didn't want to get it before I saw some inside pages, of course I'm heading over to ebay to order it right now..ohmygosh it looks amazing. I'll look at the Cotton Time too, wow, thanks for the peek, I was sure that the pink book would be good. xo

Hi Nanette,

I can give you the title of those books in Japanese.

The one on the top of the 1st picture is "Flower Color Quilt", then the one underneath of that one is "Scrap Idea Note".
I haven't looked at Cotton Time for years, but have to check it out!!

What adorable projects in those books. So, the books came in the mail and I'm wondering, can you tell us your source? or if you did, I missed it. We lived 2 1/2 years in Japan and I never learned to read anything but I could count a bit and speak a few words to get me around in the local market. :-)

Great books! I love anything Japanese! I find it so inspirational! A couple of years ago I had two Japanese girls stay with me for a month while they attended an English language program. They saw some scrunchies and were thrilled when I offered to make them some. Apparently Japanese girls are still wearing then.

Just lovely! I ran right over to ebay and got that book on top. Just the inspiration I need!
You and I both had that Yuwa fabric in the red colorway. Wouldn't it be awesome if they'd come out with more?? Let's keep our fingers crossed. ;-)
