Prep Prep Prep

I've spent so much time cutting out and prepping for retreats that I think Shadow is putting his paw down on my overtime at my cutting table. You can see I'm making a right mess while I'm at it.This is just one of the quilts I'm getting ready to make. I wanted to learn machine applique and that is what this quilt is all about. Of course my version will be very scrappy.
I'm using some reproduction quarter cuts I've had for a bit and have been waiting for just the right project.
And I'm adding some stripes, dots and checks into the mix. I'm starting to feel uncertain about the outcome at this stage because there is just so much going on. But then, that is what I'm all about.
But pieces! My heavens. There are almost 800 cut pieces in this quilt and the prep has taken so much time! Having a successful time at a retreat is all about the prep I think. Making sure I've got all my components and I'm ready to hit the ground running is essential. It is time consuming but that is time at the retreat I'll be sewing instead of cutting. I'm really wanting to come home with projects that I can quickly complete and leave no new UFOs.

The Slice and Dice looks like a fun quilt. You really have had a lot of prep work with all the classes you are taking. You're almost there!

I'm grateful for my day off to prepare too for teaching my class and getting some projects together for me to sew. I've also been working on a fun little gift for my class. I look forward to seeing you at the retreat. See ya soon!

Looking good, you do a lot of prep work, such a good idea. I have a retreat this coming weekend also and I'm planning on finishing some UFO's. Thankfully I don't have as much prep work. Enjoy the retreat.

Do you know what kind of dog you have? Isn't he wonderful! My daughter has the same kind of dog but we do not know the breed. We love her dog so much.

I have been doing the same thing Nanette, but getting my missionary son ready to send off the same day has been a bit of a challenge. I hope I only hope will be ready for the retreat!

I have to agree. I took me also a week of cutting to prepare for a four day retreat. Everyone is amazed as to what I can accomplish when I'm there. I always afraid with too much talking and fun going on that I will cut something the wrong size anyway!

What a great quilt and it will be fun now that you have all the busy work done. I like to prep for retreats too. Prepping would suck all the time out of the retreat. I like to "get my money's worth" and feel like I got a lot done by the time I come home. Have fun!

Hi Nanette! I just happened to stumble onto your blog by seeing the title "Dollhouse Potholder".. So, being a doll collector, I HAD to see what THAT was about!.. And I was not at all disappointed with what I came to find! LOVE the potholder, and while crocheting is my specialty, I still love to dabble with my sewing machine too! Your work is beautiful, and a real inspiration! Nice to meet you today! ~tina

Shadow is darling, but I must tell you your parchesi project stole my heart! And your 800 pieces project...of course that's just crazy but what a wonderful quilt it will make! Have a great, great time...sister! xo, The Other Nanette
