Belated Happy Birthday Natalie

Mother's day was very nice. I hope everyone had a good day. It was a double holiday at our house.
Natalie had to share her birthday with Mother's Day. She was actually born on Mother's Day 27 years ago. Of course when she was born it didn't occur to me someday she'd be a mom and occasionally have Mother's Day on her birthday. But right now motherhood is still a couple years away for her (I think). Both of us got some lovely gifts and we spent a nice the day with family after church.
I thought I would share the things I gave Natalie for her birthday since they are fabric/quilt related. Months ago she told me she wanted the "Happy Trails" line of fabric. Well that line has been off most quilt shops shelves for a while so it took some online tracking, but I found 15 of the prints from that line. Since Natalie and Justin's upcoming wedding is cowboy related I thought this was a good gift. I bought a fabric covered cowboy tin from etsy.com and put in all the fabric.
One other thing Natalie asked for was an appliqued bird pattern version of my "In the Leafy Treetops" quilt. She prefers to applique and I was flattered that she wanted to make a quilt (sometime in the future) like my little birdie creation. So I made her a pot holder using the appliqued bird idea to illustrate what the applique quilt version would look like.
The fabric for the little bird and wing is vintage feed sack picked with Natalie's taste in mind. I appliqued the bird on cotton/linen. And after hand appliqueing I used sketch machine embroidery to outline the bird and draw in features. I then machine quilted the potholder. It was so fun to do. I loved making it. It made me want to make a whole quilt with appliqued birds staging them slightly different than my original quilt.

What a nice touch to put the cowboy fabric in the special tin. And I really like the bird applique - I think you should do a entire quilt like that!

Happy birthday Nat!!

It sounds like a great day for all.

I had Connor June 15. He got to come home from the hospital on Father's day. Last year his birthday was on father's day.

I didn't think that one through all the way! :) I just wanted the stinking baby out! :)
