Scotty Dog and Shadow

Karin at "A Thread of Red" has a new tutorial for a scotty dog block. It is really cute and her tutorial is well done.
Here is Karin's block. If you are interested in making a little black dog, now is your chance. Don't you love tutorials? You can see Shelbie holding our little black dog in this picture. Well sorta. I thought I'd show this family snapshot taken Monday at my house. Everyone is present except my son-in-law Eliot. So we had to take a picture. Back row from left to right is soon-to-be son-in-law Justin (to Natalie), daughter Natalie, daughter Shelbie holding Shadow, daughter Laurie, daughter Chelsey. Front row from left to right is son Mason (note the very interested pose), daughter Tracey (to missing son-in-law Eliot whom we miss very much but he just finished first year law school and has an internship in Oklahoma right now), daughter Jamie and daughter Whitney. You have no idea how hard it is to get them together for a picture.
Here is my Scotty Dog that I designed a couple years ago. It is a flag I hang right outside my front door. I think Karin's dog is better. I like the shape of her dog more. My dog was made with Shadow in mind, even though he's not a Scotty. I was quite pleased with this little quilt but my kids say the fur hanging down on his chin looks like teeth. I actually think it looks rather robot doggy like, maybe it is that eye? Whatever. My Scotty flag is scrappy, of course. I think all Scottys are cute.

You only have one son? Does that drive him crazy? My mom has 5 children and out of those 5, 4 of us are girls! My brother always wanted a brother but never got one and now he is grown and has 4 girls!

I think all Scotty's are cute, not because I have a Scotty dog, but because my son's name is Scott.
(I think the dogs are pretty cute too!)

What a wonderful family portrait, Nanette! Your heart must swell looking at all of your beautiful children! I love your Scotty - one of my first quilts was a scotty quilt, only I revered the colors and made the dog cream for my SIL's Westie!
Cheers!

LOVE the family photo and your Scotty dog flag. Thanks for sharing! (Question....are your flags hung totally outside or are they undercover on a porch or a breezeway? I was just wondering how they weather if they are totally outside.)

Great family photo. I can just imagine how hard it is to get them all in one room. I just have 3 kids and a daughter in law and can't get them together much anymore. Love your flag.
