Lazy Easter Post

Easter isn't what it used to be, at least not that I can tell. When I was a kid, Easter was a big deal. And I mean bigger than Halloween. New dress, new shoes, Easter bunny, Easter basket, a toy, dying eggs, and candy. Lots of candy. Sure I knew the religious implications, but I was a kid.
I remember we got Easter cards in the mail. I'm not sure if my mom sent them out, too, but my auntie always sent us a card. Ah, nostalgia.
I've posted this Easter snapshot before (therefore lazy post title). But it really says something about Easter to me. This photo was taken on the church grounds before Sunday School. I'm always making the sassy faces in pictures. So that is me with my hands up being Miss Smartypants. I remember those shoes. They pinched. This has to be 1963, I think. Oh, how I loved that dress! My fabulous dad is behind me. I wish I had appreciated him more. He kind of looks like a mobster there, but he was a cop. There are 3 of my sisters, Polly, Shelly and Teri, and my sister's friend (hat) in the photo. My mom made all the clothes. Of course. She would have made our shoes if she could have. I'm sure Mom, Freda, is the one behind the camera.

Happy Easter everyone. Ham and fixins for all.

You're right, times have changed. I think it happened slowly without us noticing!

Boy, isn't it the truth! We ALWAYS had a new Easter dress -- specially made by Mom. And did you ever go to an Easter Parade with and Easter hat that you made? I remember making my hat out of a foil pie tin -- it was turned upside down and I put lots of those adorable little yellow fuzzy chicks on it. I love your family picture -- classic Easter photo!

Thanks for sharing childhood memories. Easters were different back then...always a new hat and dress. Like you...mine was sewn by my mom. Happy Easter to you and your family.

Oh, your pictures are great. I have some from the 1950s (no, don't ask); my sister and I had matching hats, shoes, and gloves.....I've got to dig them up and revisit those memories. Thanks, Kathy

I love the picture. What about the itcy tulle under the dress to make it poufy? I hated that, but I did love my little white gloves and tiny patent leather shiny handbag.
That's funny, in all of our pictures my father looks like a gangster too!

funny! i posted a retro easter photo today, too.
not QUITE as retro as yours, though.
i agree -- easter used to be a much bigger deal than it is now.

I grew up in the 70's and felt the same way you did/do. We always got an Easter dress. There was always a big meal, lots of candy, etc. Hmmm. sad.

Great photo! We dressed up for Easter when we were kids too. My sister and I usually had matching outfits, mostly made by my Grandma or my mom. I soooo wish I had all those clothes, but my mom didn't save them. Oh well, at least I have photographs! Happy Easter to you and yours. Is Baby Eliza able to come home for Easter dinner?

So darling. And YOU are absolutely fabulous. Don't you wish we could go back and regain that hutzpah that just came so naturally then? Life has a way of beating it out of most of us...(I suspect because we let it.) Anyway...Happy Easter to you too friend. I think you've inspired me to scan MY fav Easter photo and do a blog post today! :-)

What a sweet picture, and I love the Easter card. I don't remember sending or receiving cards, but we sure had the new dress, shoes, hat. A different age.
