Weekend Hodge Podge

How was your weekend? Mine was busy. There wasn't much time spent at my machine in my sewing room but I did get some important things done. The most important was being with friends Saturday night at a wedding reception of a dear friend's daughter. It was time very well spent.
Some of the other things I did include . . . Binding
Reading - well, maybe not real Reading but more like looking at a picture book.
Admiring
Dreaming
Writing - isn't this journal just like beautiful fabric. My daughter Natalie brought this home for me and I immediately started a quilt journal - something I've been meaning to do for a while. (Thanks for spurring me on with your example Nedra.)
Cutting and kit makingLearning and tweeking - the talented Arlene (a new friend) and her husband Dave helped me get to know my featherweight and get it ready work.
I also went to church, fixed a nice Sunday meal and spent Sunday with family. Even though my "to do" list didn't shrink much, I tended to some important things. My google blogger still has over 500 posts to visit but I suppose they will wait for me along with that "to do" list.
A parting shot - the fabulous Flora took this picture in her front yard a week or so ago and shared her photo with me. Flora lives not far down the road from me. Now I've seen owls, foxes, minks, tons of racoons and heard quite a few cougar stories but I had no idea we had moose in Alpine! And she fed him so he may be a regular at her house. Would you look at that view. Isn't it beautiful. Almost like a post card.
Hope you had a nice weekend.

I love the moose!! My sister in Vermont sees them all the time.

I wanted to ask what you put in the middle of your hotpads. Do you use multiple layers of batting or that silver heat resistant stuff LOL

Thanks!

Well my weekend sounds a lot like yours - except for the moose part that is ;) Oh, and we didn't go to church - it was a snow day! Church was cancelled. 2nd time in a month!

Enjoy your quilt journal. I started one a little over a year ago and I also keep notes as to how I made a project, fabrics used, thread I used to quilt, etc. so I can refer back to it later. I also use it as an inspiration journal when I see a great idea or think of something I want to make.

REALLY??? A Moose in Alpine??? That's AMAZING! I would have never guessed it. My Granpa was a Gov't trapper in the mountains south of Thistle and I think that's one animal I never heard him mention. He must have seen them but...I'll have to ask my Dad about it.

I used to have a quilt journal. Now I have a blog, LOL. It sounds like you had a wonderful, relaxing weekend. My google reader is always backed up like yours -- after awhile, you get used to it!

We have moose in our bedroom! Well, a painting of moose but it's a pretty oil painting of two moose in a snowy mountain scene that could have been inspired by your photo....except the painting was done in Korea 35 years ago!!! Beautiful photo. Your potholders are so cute and so they will have to go on my "to do" list. It just keeps getting longer!!!

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. One time I had over 300 posts to read due to a vacation...I scrolled through rather quickly, starring anything I thought I HAD to look at again, and deleted the rest--I was so glad I did that...don't think I would have ever caught up!

Wow, yes, gorgeous picture. Sounds like you had a great weekend.

The moose picture is just wonderful!!

Sounds like your weekend was as close to perfect as can be! The hot pads are great, a journal sounds like fun -- and spending time with family and friends is always good!

At one point I had something like 700 posts waiting to be read. I have to admit to hitting the "mark all as read" button and just catching up slowly -- as each blog I followed had a new post, I would quickly go back and look at some of their older posts. It was just too paralyzing seeing that number waiting to be read!

We have deer in our yard all the time--in fact, that just reminded me that I need to go sweep off some droppings on the sidewalk. How cool to see a moose so close to home. They must be hungry this winter. Have a great day. Julie

Looks like you had a busy weekend. I have had moose in my yard lately too. Be careful though - they are NOT friendly but very dangerous.

Sounds to me like you did what needed to be done. When it isn't fun anymore, why do it? Wait till it sounds good again and then go for it. :)

I am also going to be starting a quilt journal too. I am going to do it online. I can't wait and would love to see how yours comes out. The moose is great and large. His backdrop is gorgeous.

The potholder is really cute and another great use for the houses. Your colours really make them look like doll houses. Thank you for the tutorial

Glad you had a nice time at the wedding. Go to your google reader and hit read all and start over, evryone will understand. this weekend, I got my oldest daughter's baby quilt pieced, marked, pinned and ready to start to hand quilt tonight. Oh ,I also got a little cold, such is life, I did not get as much done as I wanted to do but that's OK! xoxo

Once again, I love your little pot holders. Sounds like a good Sunday to me. Joanna said that they had a snow day. Something I had never experienced (I'm a Southern California girl) until I was visiting my daughter and her family in MN a couple of years ago. I hope we don't get that much snow here;)

Love the moose. My DH and I desperately searched Maine to see a moose only to find out we were looking in the wrong season--spring instead of autumn.
I bought insul-brite today so now I can make some of those adorable hot pads.

Thanks for the mention about the quilt journal. Yours looks very pretty. I'm glad if I inspired you in any way, because you inspire me on a daily basis.
Amazing photo from Flora. I had no idea that you had moose in Alpine. Wow!

I love the pot holders. I'll have to make some as gifts! My mom has an old sewing machine like that one. She doesn't use it and I want to get it working!

I have a question for you. When you bound your merry-go-round quilt did you do the outside points like regular corners with a miter and then the inside points did you just pivot? That's the point I'm to with mine. Thanks!

Elizabeth

Oh my goodness! I've never lived anywhere that I could see a moose! I think I would pee my pants if I saw a moose just walking around like that! Funny, because I live in WA, not far from their 'home turf' ~ but still that's pretty cool!

I love seeing a snapshot of your day ~ your quilty musings, journal and inspirations. Thanks so much for sharing.

I love the moose and the snow. It's beautiful where you live.

It sounds like your weekend what just what you needed.

Take care!

Amanda♥

ok, looking at moose tells me that you live in snow country, in cold country and that's why you have time to quilt in winter.
I am in Southern Ontario, and no moose here, deer and no antelope, but it's still cold and I yearn for spring.
I love the photo, you keep piecing and quilting, it's what we do when it's too cold to go outdoors.

Goodness! Miss Popular. I am commenter number 43. :-D

Your weekend looked beautiful. I am in LOVE with your new machine. Are you bonding with her yet? And no.. I didn't say BINDing. But that will be next.

The moose is amazing. Wow. Is it a Mama moose? I can't tell if she has antlers or not. But I do know a Mama moose with a little one is not as cute as they look.
