Last year I saw this quilt on Amy's Blog. She was inspired by several Union Jack quilts but used the pattern called Victory Garden. Amy has made several projects with flags that I have just loved. So I set a goal for myself to make a personal flag quilt during the year of 2011. I decided to use the 4 flags from my mixed breed nationality: 1/2 Slovakian, 1/4 English and 1/4 Danish = all USA.
I made 2 Union Jacks so far, both with the same fabric. And I used fabric from Japan. I thought that was funny.
And this weekend I made 2 Danish Flags. Mostly because it was the easiest flag!
This is the 2nd Danish flag. I think I'm going to stick to the red white and blue colors for the whole quilt since all 4 flags use only those colors. Of course with prints there will be small touches of green and yellow but mainly it is red, white and blue. Next I will conquer the Slovakian flag. I'm looking forward to it.

This is going to be a great quilt! Can't wait for the blogger's meet up party!
I love Amy's quilt, what great inspiration for yours. Your blocks are so pretty. What a fun idea.
no preview of yor next flag? What a tease!
I am certainly anxious to see the next flags....looks like this is a quilt that shouldn't be too difficult to finish!
I never thought about making quilt blocks representing the flags of my heritage. Great idea!
This is a great idea...love the fabrics!! You always are coming up with something wonderful...and Amy too!
Love all the flags. We have the maple leaf here in Canada. It would be hard to add it to these beauties!
What a fabulous idea! WOW! You'll show us progress, right? Much of mine would be easy with the Swiss flag being predominant. Would it be wrong to adopt a heritage because the flag is pleasing??? :-)
This is such a COOL idea Nanette. I might have to swipe it from you and Amy LOL. Your blocks are looking fab btw!
What a fun quilt! And a great celebration of heritage.
Looks like you had a lovely time away with your little holiday. And some lovely additions to your china - really wonderful memories for you.
Glad you are feeling better.
Oh this is looking so great, Nanette! I can't wait to see it finished!
