More Easter

I'm really enjoying this little Easter Dress Blog Party that Eileen and I started (thanks Eileen). I have loved seeing the Easter pictures of yesterday from everyone so I just have to continue the party. (When I showed my pictures to Mr. Hive he said "what happened to the good old days?") It isn't too late to play. Show us your Easter outfits! Go to Eileen's blog and add your name to Mr. Linky and post your pictures.

This is my "Nanette" dress that I have on my side bar. It was made by Freda with huck weaving. The dress was red toweling of some sort. I think this was 1960. Again with the ringlets. This time with hand-me-down gloves and my shiny white shoes and socks. Darn I wish I still had that dress! I wish I even just remembered wearing it.
Now Easter 1964. Get a load of that pink car. Wish I had that too. I absolutely loved this dress. It was my favorite-best-ever-most-loved dress. And I've got the little purse (that held Kleenex and maybe some Easter candy) and the hat. The dress had a pinafore top. I even remember watching mom, Freda, making it.
Here is another picture from that Easter in '63. Again mom is in the very back. My sister Polly is in front of her with our friend Suzanne (can you believe that netted hat!). Then in front of Polly is my sister Michelle and then my sister Teri. Of course mom made all the outfits.

I know this dress is why I love cabbage rose fabric, and it is in aqua no less. And the dress has a story after Easter. In May 1963, Mrs. Miller's first grade class at Fifth and Spring elementary school had a play - Goldilocks and the Three Bears. And guess who was Goldilocks??? Yep. The thing I remember most was that Glenn Zerby was one of the bears and he kissed my cheek at the end of the play. I was infatuated and I was wearing my favorite dress.
The last shot from '63. With my dad in the picture this time. Of course, I'm always the show-off. Those certainly WERE the good old days!

I'm loving all of the Easter Outfits-great idea. My pics are in CA with my dad, but I do remember when I had my first child, a girl, the first thing I said after I found out that I had a girl was, "Yes, I can make us matching Easter Dresses." Her b-day is in March. Our dresses were light green dotted swiss (can you imagine???) Don't know what I was thinking...She looked adorable, me??? As with you, my mom made all of my Easter Dresses and I loved them. I also had what I called my itchy slip. My grandma had a couple of dresses made for me and the lady included said slip. I hated it because it was so itchy and to this day I always check the "itchyness" of everything I put on;) Happy Easter!

The pink car... the glasses with the big whispy fins (will THOSE be coming back?)...and your cute little wave. Those were the days.

I love the photos and memories that you have shared with us! It does remind me of when life was "simple". I also remember wearing the frilly dresses with white gloves and bows in my hair! Ahh...the good old days! I also remember the Easter egg hunts after church!

Have a good day!

They say you can't live in the past but gee! I had such a good time as a kid that it's easy to remember how good it was!!

My Dad had the same car!!! And I had an Easter bonnet that was almost identical. I remember that it was kind of stiff and had silk daisies stuck on it. The absolute bees knees! My Easter dress was a blue and white dotted Swiss and it was my all time fav! I was devastated when I outgrew it!

Oh to have a time machine...

Where did those days go, my Mom made our dress too and we always got a new coat for Easter. I try so hard to keep things warm, cozy, homey and simple, but tech. gets in the way, but of course without blogging, i never would have met some of the kindest people around!!

These photos are just awesome...you know; many people have NO photos of their growing up, let alone awesome ones. Isn't that so sad?

Gosh! It's good to be young and cute, isn't it? I wish I were middle-aged and cute -- it would make finding new clothing so much easeier!

Congratulations to your newly engaged daughter.

I can't believe I never noticed the Nanette dress before. I love thinking about the Easter outfits my mom made for us. One year she went over the top and made matching dresses and coats for the two of us ... good times. Barbara

Nanette you little cutie, I can see why you were chosen to play Goldilocks and I'm not just talking the curls but that last pic shows your star quality. I am loving these pictures. And seeing your mother's work is quite a treat.

Nanette, What terrific pictures! I especially like your pose in the last one.

You DO look like Goldie Locks in that last picture! How absolutely adorable. I wonder where your mom found a pattern to make that dress?.. I think it is very unique. The old order Mennonite girls wear dresses with those "bibs".. to this day. And I kind of think it is an Amish thing too. But of course not skirt above the knees and the pretty little black patten shoes! That is just adorable.

Wonderful times and memories. I am so glad you added this photo!

p.s. Loved seeing your Dad in that photo too. I think you resemble him quite a bit. And that is a compliment. We are our daddies' girls. :-)
