In my excitement to open my swap package from Lorraine I did not fully examine everything. Inside one of the feed sacks was this hidden treasure. Doh! I got all my prizes out to show my daughter this weekend and she reached into one of the feed sacks and pulled this out!
Then I remembered seeing a tiny bit of it on Lorraine's blog. I had missed the main gift. I hurried and emailed Lorraine and then sat and enjoyed this beautiful stitched teapot. Her work is fabulous. I don't really embroider much (or very well) so I truly appreciate careful stitching like this. It is so beautiful. I put it in my entry way to enjoy as I come and go. Thanks again Lorraine. Your machine quilting is so even and nice, too.
A few months ago I saw this Japanese patchwork magazine on a blog. Hmm where was that? Can't remember. I loved the quilt on the cover and went about looking for a copy for myself. I think I got it on ebay.
Of course I can only read the picture directions but it is a pretty simple idea and simple quilt. I have so many bits of fabric like the ones in the picture and I think that was what drew me to want to make this quilt. I've been collecting squares from larger pieces as I cut fabric.
And so this weekend I buried my list of things to do and started something. Just for fun. Just for me. Perfect points are not my strength but the eye is forgiving when the points are laid out this way and I think it is turning out ok.
I have 14 rows sewn together so far. Each block has light and dark value fabric triangles. I cut the triangles from a 4" square and then used each triangle twice. Every row has 12 blocks. I really love scrappy and this surely fits the bill. I haven't thought about borders yet. There is a lot going on in the quilt so far so I don't want to overwhelm it with busy borders. Maybe a solid color would be good. It was very relaxing to cut out the triangles and stitch them together and then make rows. Joining the rows one by one was exciting to see it all come together. I promise myself I will get back to my list one of these days soon. But for right now I'm having too much fun.

The embroidered teapot from Lorraine is so sweet! She does wonderful work, doesn't she!

Oh, Nanette I love your new project - talk about sweet! I'm thinking no border but a fabric that reads solid for the binding (nice frame). Wait, you didn't ask for my opinion, did you? Teehee!

Looks super so far Nanette.

Just a suggestion (I can't believe I'm offering a suggestion to you), but how about a narrow solid border, followed by a scalloped "quieter" print, just to tie the scrappiness all together and finished with a solid binding.

Whatever you choose, I'm certain it will be a masterpiece. And to heck with the "to do" list. Bring on more triangles!

Darlene, I think we're following each other around blogland this morning about 2 minutes apart.

I can't believe I offered an opinion either. Yikes! I'm outta here.

Good thing your daughter found it. No tellings how long it would have been when you got that feed sack out again. Whew!

What a great additional find from Lorraine! And that quilt is just perfect to display so many of your wonderful fabrics, Nanette! I'm not sure it even needs a border - how about a red polka dot binding to tie it all togehter? Whatever you decide, it will be adorable!
Cheers!

You did a really good job seperating the dark from the light.. and the pattern shows up so nice! Maybe a dark solid border would look good. Or some of the small red and white polka dot. :)

I bet you about flipped when you discovered the stitchery. SO pretty!!

what a sweet teapot quilt.
thank goodness your daughter spotted it. lol.

i love the little japanese quilt.
i think that a plain white border would really set the quilt in motion.
just my 2 cents.

Oh I love your scrappy triangles. I'm thinking it really doesn't need a border, just a darker binding. Whatever you choose I bet it will look gorgeous ;o). I've never tried a scrappy quilt - hmmm, that would explain my overflowing stash tee hee hee. Maybe it's time I gave it some serious thought LOL.
Hugs,

The quilt is AMAZING!!! The scrappy look of it makes it more charming and all those bits are precious.

Love the patchwork triangles. The design is reminiscent of the vintage triangle "puzzle" quilt my dad bought me but you're construction is so much quicker!! I think solid border or no border would be good. I have a friend who made a large triangle quilt and did it with no border so that the triangles were the "star" of the quilt.

What a pretty teapot Lorraine sent! Love your happy triangles! I planned to give myself permission on Friday to start something just because it would be fun. I never got around to it. I'll have to plan that in the schedule sometime in the near future. :-) As for the border, not that you asked, I think something solid-y would be very pretty. Red? A pretty aqua?? Yellow???? It will be a fresh and fun quilt!
