Fabric and Cheese Steaks

It was a shopping and sewing Saturday this weekend. I needed fabric for binding and some rick rack for a new project. I went to Material Girls in South Jordan. Nadine took care of me and helped me find just what I needed. I haven't been to Material Girls since the shop hop in June. New quilts and displays were fun to look at and browse.

The bed in the back of the store had a really darling quilt by Quilt Soup. It was done in early fall colors.

Here is what I got. Matching fabric for the couch quilt, binding fabric, rick rack and pink dot for a new baby quilt.
Nadine also had the new Cotton Blossoms jelly roll by Camille. I had to get that. The fabric is really sweet. I don't know yet what I'll make with it but I couldn't pass it by.

The bonus was that a few stores down from Material Girls is a great sandwich shop called Downtown Philly. The owner is the son of a guy I knew when I lived in Reading Pennsylvania many years ago. It was great to taste an authentic cheese steak!
We stuck with ordering the basic Philly cheese steak.
There were also Herr's chips, birch beer, and Tastykakes. It was like finding a little spot of Pennsylvania inside Utah.

I know its rude to take pictures when people are eating but you can see we all loved our sandwiches. I think we'll be back whenever I need fabric. How often is that???? Probably too often!

What a GREAT store you have to go to! Is it close enough that you can drop in often?? That might be trouble though. I am getting some of the Cotton Blossoms as well. As soon as I saw their Piece of Cake quilt from a Quilt Market photo I KNEW that I had to make that. I can't wait to see what you make with it.

I love Material Girls. It is one of those places my husband hates me going to because when it comes to fabric I just can’t resist - at all! Such a great store! I was there a couple Saturdays ago, and Sandi Henderson was in line in front of me, and I had no idea because I was BEHIND her. She probably heard me ogling her fabric! Didn’t know about Downtown Philly, next time I’ll give it a try.

How fun that your kids will go with you to look at a quilt shop. I love material girls, and whenever I go up North, I always check in. Their new location is twice the size. I knew they would be a success the minute they opened.

Wow! You got some of your Tasty Cakes! I thought of you last week in NJ when I saw them in the store -- I was tempted to get some but I was trying to behave myself. That quilt soup quilt is adorable -- I need to search for it on the web -- I'd love to see the whole thing!

Hi Nannette, your comments make me smile. It sounds just like you talking out of the page. You do more things than are humanly possible, I really am convinced you have a magic time stretcher machine. Keep smiling and of course keep quilting. I can't wait to see what you dream up next. Oh and thanks for your kind words.

My daughter in law is from Penn. I'll have to tell her about that sandwich place. When she went home this summer she brought a suitcase full of stuff she can't get here like those tasty cakes. That fabric is gorgeous. We'll have to make a trip down there soon. Mimi

cheese steaks yum:)
I wonder if hubby will drive to Philley this week?
Probably not but I promise to have one when we go next month to see the Gee Bend quilts at the Philley Art Museum.
I love quilt shops and haven't been to one in so very long....trying to use up more of what I have. But I'm "suppsed" to be going to Houston in the fall and then all bets are off.....I'm working on my pumpkins today for alittle while :)

I'd love to visit Material Girls someday. They helped me recently when I was hunting high and low for a pattern from one of the local designers. I was so incredibly pleased with their customer service.

I have a project ready to sew with Cotton Blossoms - such a sweet line.

Sandwiches look really good.

Philly Cheese Steak is my favorite!! Janine and always split one at this great place right by where we go to strip club...yum!

What a cute shop! I got that Quilt Soup pattern at Quilt Festival, I love that quilt. Unfortunately I have misplaced it, I have almost all my fabric gathered and I have searched high and low and no pattern grrrr.

I will tell you that just the title of this post had me drooling!! I shouldn't admit to that, should I? LOL! I want to visit the Material Girls someday - it looks like such a cute shop! I love the Cottom Blossoms fabric, too, and have purchased a layer cake of it. I can't wait to see what you do with it! Your lunch sounds delicious! (still drooling...)
