Quilting with the Stars Part I

Where do I start? I've been having a wonderful time. It is going to be a busy week catching up after my mini St. George, Utah vacation from last week. It is hard to express in words how much fun it was. I realize I never take enough photos. I missed taking pictures of visiting with extended family and my trip partners Mason and Mr. Hive. Oh well. Just know that last week was fabulous.

Thank you for your sweet comments while I was gone. I won't go back to answer them but I read them all and I really appreciate hearing from my friends on the blog.
Our lovely time sewing was hosted by the fabulous Nedra. I will describe Nedra, for those of you that don't know her, as someone who always thinks of others, someone who is positive and upbeat and lives true to who she is. She's talented and kind. She opened her home to several of us last week to get together and sew, cooked us lunch, and made us feel so welcome. Thank you Nedra. And it was her birthday!!! The day she should be spoiled herself, she was spoiling us. Nedra gave me a mini class in making the pickle dish blocks (see design board below). She's such a patient teacher. I actually think I can make this foundation block quilt.
Here is the famous and multi-talented Lori. Lori and I share so much in common. We find out more and more things we share all the time. We even have matching Singer Featherweight machines. Lori always wows me with her projects and style and I want to do everything she does and I always come away happy and excited to create. Lori amazes me with the ease in which she makes things perfectly and the way she creates beauty around here everywhere she goes. My favorite thing about Lori though, is how she makes me laugh.
Then there is Rae Ann. I am sorry for this lousy photo. Rae Ann has a glow about her so this dark photo does not do her justice. Rae Ann always has a hand out to lift someone up and share her ability to find good in any of life's situations and challenges. She's enthusiastic and thoughtful. She makes me feel like I'm special. Isn't that an amazing quality in a friend?! Rae Ann juggles her busy life with such strength and reliance on the spirit. I admire that so much.
I have to say I visited more than I sewed but I did come away with a good start on Gypsy Kisses/Pickle Dish I've been wanting to try for a long time. It was such valuable time and more was accomplished than what is visible to the eye. It isn't often I get to sew with true stars.

More later ....

Looks like you had a wonderful time. What would all of us do without our friends?!!! Your description of your friends tells how much you all enjoy each other. Rae Ann glows even in the dark photo. :-) Someday, I'm going to come and meet you all. Love that quilt block in your featherweight!

Hi Nanette,
I first saw the pickle dish pattern in Kaffe's book, now in Material Obsession 2 and would love to try it! I've found that paper piecing is right up my alley and although there have been several tense moments between us (lol), I always have a smile on my face in the end!
