Weekend Butterflies

I was able to sew for a bit Saturday.  And so I finished making my butterflies for a new quilt.  They really are an enjoyable block to sew.
The whole process of Amy's tutorial is fun.  I decided to go with blue and red butterflies for this project with a black background.
I used a vintage looking piece with words and small scissors/thread on the fabric (among other things) for the middle strip.  .
I had one "oops", which was easily fixed, but I had already sewed it into my butterflies before I caught it.
Butterflies are sewn into chains of 11 for each row.  I'll show you how I'm going to set the rows when my black hounds tooth arrives.  Thanks to Jenny, I found some.  (Speaking of Jenny, she always inspires me.)

Great butterflies! Maybe the oops really wasn't an oops. I bet the butterfly was just changing directions, right?

Very striking! Clever you for putting in a light "body" to contrast with the black background. It shows up nicely.

I'm looking forward to seeing it with the houndstooth. Love these blocks! I bought some fabric this weekend that made me think of you.

I think we should all put our butterfly quilts together and show how they turned out. Meanwhile, I'm finishing up on Freda's Flowers.

Maybe your butterfly wasn't an oops! but just "marching to a different drummer". :-) Black as a background can really make colors "pop". Adding the houndstooth is really going to make this striking.

If I didn't have a gazillion projects on the go, I could be tempted by the butterfly blocks. Yours are looking wonderful with black.
