Rae Ann: Aprons and Stash Manicure

My good friend Rae Ann gave our featured presentation at our Alpine Quilt Group meeting last week.
You may know Rae Ann already and read her blog Cutie Pinwheel. I met Rae Ann years ago when Broadbent's Store expanded to be a fabulous quilt shop. Rae Ann is a dynamo and a sweet and loyal friend. She is thoughtful and kind besides having talent and organization skills. Rae Ann came to talk about aprons and her new blog Stash Manicure.

Rae Ann brought models to show us her aprons. She had granddaughters and friends (the most darling girls) model more than 20 aprons from her vintage apron collection.
It was really fun and I took lots of photos. So I made collages out of them. You can't see all of them, however. But I wanted to put as many up as possible for you to see.
Rae Ann hunts for aprons everywhere she goes. It is fun to collect something you can enjoy and hunt for as you travel. I might just pick up this hobby myself.
I love aprons and I wear one at home almost all the time. I'd go out in public with them if I thought it wouldn't get me strange looks. I like having pockets in front and the ability to keep threads and cooking splatters off me, among other things. When Allison is here an apron comes in mighty handy so I know why most women wore them, or still do.
Rae Ann also brought a few quilts to show as she talked about her other blog Stash Manicure. We quilters always need ideas for how to organize and use our stashes. Rae Ann is having friends come to show ideas to all of us at this blog. (she has 3!!)
I remember when this quilt hung at Broadbent's. Pinwheels are great and scrappy pinwheels are the best.
Rae Ann has some ideas about organizing projects in our "to do" pile. You know, the ones we buy fabric for and sometimes never get around to making!
I could use some help at my house organizing my stash better. I'm always open to new ideas.
This is a great stash quilt idea. The squares are all individually cut up from previous projects. Thanks for all your inspiration Rae Ann. It was a wonderful night to learn more about aprons and stash busting.

Thursday I'll be a "guest" blogger on Stash Manicure. I'm not sure I'll be that much inspiration or help. More like posting my own problems!!

It would have been fun to see Rae Ann and her "models" in those cute aprons. Love that last photo and quilt! I have a small apron collection that Rae Ann would enjoy. Several years ago, we did an exhibit at our historical society on aprons and it was amazing how many aprons folks shared - over 100! I'll have to look for photos (pre-digital) and share a few with Rae Ann. :-)

I've been checking in on Stash Manicure since it went up. I figure I need all the help I can get. Those aprons are so sweet, and by the way - I forgot to tell you how much I like your new header. It's more modern looking, but still very much "you"!

She did a fantastic job with that quilt in the last page.. it really goes to show that you shouldn't throw out scraps if you can still cut a usable square -or more- out of them!

I'm really gonna have to make the trip someday to your store.. we live in Sandy, UT but my husband doesn't like driving out of the valley for anything, and I can't drive yet. More motivation to get my driver's license!

Your new header to too awesome and so you, Nanette.

I've never been an apron wearer but my Gram did and every time I see one it reminds me of her and gives me the warm and fuzzies.

Love those quilts, especially the last one. To die for.

And stop selling yourself short. You are the epitome of inspiration!

Well Nanette...
I really feel bad that I missed Rae Ann's presentation but my Dad needed me to help him with the water turn...lol (some things never change!)...it was the first one of the season and that means ALOT of work for him.
I'm so glad that you showed all of the pictures so I didn't miss out all the way.
I just love Rae Ann...I know she did a fantastic job.

What a wonderful show and tell. I have really been enjoying the stash manicure blog. Do you know the pattern name of the red/pinkish quilt with the pinwheels?

Aren't aprons adorable. There is some strange magnetic pull about aprons, they do give you a warm feeling inside somehow! Love the post and Rae Ann is lovely. xo

I looooove my "big book of scrap quilts" book Nanette! it has some really great projects in it for sure!
the aprons Rae Ann brought are just so cute! I love wearing an apron as well, and I'm with you, I could wear it all day long. We should seriously start that new trend and convince everyone it's cool. :)
