July 3

July snuck up on me and I don't think I'm alone. The summer is flying by. Tomorrow is the holiday and I've really not given it much thought, yet.
I hadn't even put up my July 4th quilts so yesterday we hung this simple patriotic flag in the entry way.
I made it in 2002 with this post 9-11 fabric showing patriotic scenes including the NYC fire and police. It was a quilt in a day class I took from my friend Suzanne. It was fun. I altered her pattern slightly to come up with this. Thanks for your emails and comments about thrifty July. Some of you have been doing this for a bit and some want to start and some just want to think about it. Its really not a contest, its just something I want to keep in mind myself for the month of July. So last night in keeping with budget minded meals we made a chicken noodle casserole from things in the pantry and chicken in my freezer. Quick, easy, cheap. I am thinking of making an apron with that fabric under the plate. Very 60's.Then for dessert I didn't have to do anything! Laura brought over cupcakes. She called them S'more Cupcakes and were they yummy! In fact I think they beat out my old favorite - the banana nut cupcakes she made. The frosting had marshmallow cream in it. Its hard to lick a paper plate or I might have tried. They had just the right amount of chocolaty sweetness. So super good. And Laura IS working on getting a blog up and the name of these cupcakes is a hint to the name of her blog. I can't wait for it to get going. She's very talented and I've learned so much from her about cooking and baking over the years of our friendship. And she sews, too.

Seeing your patriotic quilt makes me want to do one as well. Yours is great....I like the more subtle colors. I'm standing here with one hand over my heart and I'm saluteing with other as I view your quilt. I'm feeling very patriotic, for I finally bought a flag to display out on my porch. YOU GO AMERICA!!!!!

Holey Moley! That's it, i'm serious! I am relocating to your driveway. These have put me over the edge. The birthday cupcakes, divine! When you were sick cupcakes, delish! That UNREAL 3 layer strawberry shortcake cake, that I am still drooling over. I keep a towel next to me to catch the drool. But these are my limit! Please tell her not to have a blog, I can't take it, I can't. I am now going to dream about these for the rest of my life. I will be mumbling about them when I die, I am serious. I think Laura is going to drive me to cupcake's anonymous!

Hey Nanette, Thanks for all of the fun posts you always do! You're my Quilting and Blogging Idol! I don't think I have it in me to do a post nearly every day but it's so fun to check out your blog everyday to see what you're up too! Love IT!!! Keep it up and tell Laura to bring it on! I look forward to visiting her blog too!

Nanette, you are so inspiring! You hit me between the eyes on the 'make it do' idea. I know I should do it b/c I'm such an impulse buyer. Just look at my craft/sewing room. by the way, your Dear Jane square looks just great to me. Luv, Nerm

I know! I didn't even get to really decorate for the holiday, since it's tomorrow!

Oh, and I am going to try really hard to follow the "thrifty in July" challenge. We'll see how well it works. Thanks for putting the challenge out there and giving us some motivation to try to succeed at something we may or may not have had success with in the past!

Happy 4th!

I love your quilt! I need to make something red, white and blue to hang in my home, too. I cannot believe that it is July already! Where has this year gone? It is totally RACING by, isn't it? That casserole looks totally yummy, and the cupcakes look to die-for delicious. Makes me want to lick my computer screen....
