Right now I'm appliqueing the black and white centers to the "eye" blocks. It goes pretty fast but it isn't my favorite applique project.
I don't really like it because I'm appliqueing on top of a hole in the block. I tried pinning the black dot and didn't really like that.
And using applique glue doesn't work well because there is just such a small amount of seam allowance to glue the middle part to and then it is hard to sweep my seam allowance under as I stitch.
Anyway, it's okay. I just have to keep on going. I will also admit this isn't my favorite quilt process (it hasn't been 100% fun) but I love each part when I make progress. And I'm so looking forward to my finished quilt. Eventually.

ohhhhhh, but the nasty job is worthwhile because of how gorgeous those blocks are! This is going to be a wonderful quilt!
Ohmy goodness this block is amazing!! You're amazing for attempting it! If you don't have all the black "pupils" cut out, you could try cutting them a bit bigger then they would cover more area maybe making it easier to applique down...just a thought :)
Your Gypsy Kisses are turning out beautiful! Mine still sit in the box from when we worked on them together in April. I will get back to them, I promise! (you are my inspiration)
Those blocks are GORGEOUS Nanette!
The black is an interesting choice for a center. have fun with it. when it s done I am sure you will like it.
You may not have had a ton of fun sewing them but they sure are so much fun to look at. I love them. It will be an amazing quilt. I admire your determination to keep going on your challenge.
i've always wanted to make a pickle dish quilt and now i REALLY want to make a pickle dish. What great colors! ew.....appliqueing on top of a hole.....i feel your pain.
it's going to be amazing!
Nanette, those blogs are amazing! I'm sorry it is such a difficult process, but I feel very inspired seeing them this morning. Your colour choices are stunning. Thanks for sharing your process.
Well first I think the blocks are amazing and it's going to make for a great finish. Then I guess I have to stand up while I sit here and say how much I admire the endurance. Pushing on thru to get to that finish. There sure is a lot to be said for that!!! I'm here and I'm thinking you're showing your "Supreme Side" taking this on and setting a good example for people like who would most likely say forget it (aka. give up).
This quilt is going to be spectacular! I love looking at each block. I can't wait to see your new design.
I am very intrigued by the Gypsy Kisses quilt. I've never really seen the construction units. I looked at the aqua one on Flickr - what a pretty quilt. Can't wait to see more.
This just keeps looking better and better. I love it.
And how you will love it when it's finished! So here's an official (maybe not) ATTA BOY! Good work!
This part of the quilt doesn't look fun to me either...but it's going to be soo worth it! Can't wait to see Freda's Flowers...we have a name now!
They look fabulous Nanette.
I can't wait to see what they look like!
Have a good weekend Nanette,
Stefanie
See ya on twitter :0)
Wow! I love that quilt. It is good to hear your report on it as It is so fabulous. I may be tempted to try it but when I hear you say it is difficult it I am reminded that I am not at that level yet. Love your blog
This quilt is going to be amazing. Glad to hear that I'm not alone in my feelings for pattern writing. Blah!
Looks fabulous Nanette - your hard work is definitely paying off ;o). I don't do needleturn so this may well be a daft suggestion - but is there enough seam allowance to sew the 'pupils' on first with a large basting stitch to hold them in place???
Hugs,
Joy :o)
The black polka dots are adding so much sparkle to the already delicious blocks. But appliquing that tiny piece seems painful :(
I hope this bit is over soon.
Those blocks are looking fabulous -- think how much you'll love it when you're done!
The main thing is that you're still nibbling away at the blocks and they are looking fabulous. I'm sure that appliqueing over a hole would be my favourite part either.
It is beautiful! But I so can relate. Sometimes there are those quilts that just aren't enjoyable along the way, but you feel yourself loving the results. Keep on plugging along!
Nanette, this is so gorgeous - looking forward to your new quilt!
Hugs - Lurline♥

Keep going...you're almost there....and besides...I want to see it done. I am still in love with it.
It does look like eyes with many colored false eyelashes...they should have named it Gypsy's eyes...or Lady Ga-Ga's!...
xx lori
Wow Wow...I.LIKE......LOL..these remind me of big lips!!!
Your problem on these sounds just like mine concerning the Clamshells....but I think they will both be worth it when we are finished!!
Lovely eyes!
Oh Nanette! These blocks are divine! I've never heard of a Gypsy Kiss block before let alone seen one! What a beautiful job you are doing - and your fabric choices are glorious - I'm a bit repetitive aren't I :-) Nevertheless, I'm waiting for YOU to design your own fabric girl!
fida- i am not an appliquer either, but i do like this glue:
http://jillilystudio.com/index/mod/catalog/pc_id/231
it is a little less tacky than roxannes, but still works great and a better nozzle too- doesn't get gummed up.
She also uses some wonderful needles- i love them! and aurifil thread. it is thin and silky and with the needle the stitches just disapear. take a look.
