This is my progress so far on Jina Barney's design for the Alpine Quilt Group 2010 quilt. This is a free quilt project open to anyone and I have found it to be lots of fun. If you remember (I'm sure you don't) I had black sashing helter-sketer in it last month. You can see it here. I took the black dot strips out except for the one around the middle. I'm much happier with it the way it is now.
So this is Jina's quilt above with May flowers placed above and below the April baskets. Isn't Jina's quilt great! Well, I hope Jina doesn't mind but I decided to change my version up a little.
I have been making Dresden blocks for other current projects. So I've had my ruler out and I've been making Dresden points in all sizes. And I've enjoyed using my scraps and having a great time with my Dresdens, plus I have been seeing them everywhere!
I decided to use Dresden blocks instead of Jina's May Flowers for my quilt. I don't want to stop making them and I think it will go well as the May Flowers substitute. I'll have them finished and sewn in by next week to show you.
Here are some of my chained Dresden petals. They are absolutely addicting. I do have other projects to sew but I'm having a hard time pulling myself away from these!

Brilliant! The Dresdens will be perfect with that quilt. Good for you to find a perfect place to use them
Of course you had to change it up. That's what true artists do: they make it their own and different from all the others.
The black sashing didn't work? I've always wanted to do some Dresden Plates. Love how you are adding those in.
I love Dresden plates! My mother-in-law gave me a quilt top with Dresden plates on it but she always called it her Dresden Plate Sunflowers because of the points on them instead of the rounded edge. :-) This quilt will be another great one!
These are all wonderful, Nanette! I still don't know how you do it all---
Another great quilt...love the Dresdens...they sure are addicting, aren't they!
LOVE the lighter background, Nanette. And all the baskets. I think it will look more '30s now with the dresdens. Keep having fun!
Your dresdens are adorable! I think they will look great in that quilt!
I think I would have loved the dresden design better than the fans that I spent all that time cutting out. Curves are only good on women is my motto these days!
Love it all!

Love the baskets and love the dresdens! You have been busy.
Aren't Dresden's just the best!!! Yours turned out beautifully, as did your top for the Alpine Group! The Dresden's are gonna be a wonderful addition :)
Dresdan's seem to be the rage and I love them as well. I always love your choices of fabric and colors Nanette. You are my kind of artist! I better get hopping and get some made.
I love your Dresden's too, Nanette! Makes me want to make more. I love the monochromatic look.
I like your Dresden's - this will make it your quilt. :-)
I've been wanting to make a Dresden quilt for so long and continue to procrastinate - sigh! Maybe you've helped shove me off the fence. LOL
Gina's design is wonderful -- so many fun blocks to look at! DRESDENS! How CUTE, CUTE, CUTE is that little deer background?? Oh my! With those yellow fan blades? You're killing me with cute! Dresdens, wedges -- so much fun in so little time! Really! Looking forward to seeing more!
I love your Alpine Group quilt. I especially like the wonky flowers. I have to try this. Like your Dresden's too. The all yellow one is unique and my favorite.
I love the dresden plates - I think they will look gorgeous. It is a very sweet quilt - I think I may need to make some dresden plates today. Its cold and rainy and I'm sneezy and a little cranky - perhaps I'll just come on over and play in your beautiful fabric stash instead ;-)
It is so beautiful! Love the details and the play of colors. The Dresdens are going to be a cherry topping to this delightful quilt :)
the basket quilt is adorable.
I haven't tried dresden plates yet but they look intriguing.... :)
I love your Dresden's too, Nanette.. Makes me want to make more. You have to do what you love!
They will be gorgeous on the quilt..

Love all your work...the Dresden Plates are beautiful.
Lovely eye candy with baskets and dresdens! I love the deer fabric. I think I have a dresden somehwhere in the cupboard. Unfinished of course.
I like your basket quilt better with the pretty colors as well. It's gorgeous and so are your Dresden plates. I love those yummy yellow fabrics that you've chosen.
Thanks for the inspiration, Nanette - Just the morivation I need to get me going - love those pinwheels!

Hi Nanette. Your Alpine Group quilt is looking great. Love all the projects you share with us.
I simply ADORE your Dresden blocks!!
I have a Dresden ruler, but haven't used it yet - you motivate me!!
Happy to see the Alpine Group quilt. Very happy. Jina's quilt is really cute. Gotta admit that for sure!
Oh my goodness but your Dresden's are just too cute! Can't contain myself with these. Jumping up and down getting my exercise. Oh my oh my oh my. Other project to sew? You do? Huh. I only think and see Dresden. Even if I did spy something that looked suspiciously like a pickle dish on Stash Manicure. Hee! :)
your quilt (with changes) is looking super duper. i really love your use of vintage and vintage-y fabrics for the baskets.
I love everything you make! Lovely combinations, lovely blocks... you have it all.
Your dresden flowers will be a delightful addition to Jina's very happy quilt.
Love your quilt. And the other one too. And dresdan plates are fun to make. Love the red one your working on there.
Gorgeous fabrics, as always! Dresdens are so much fun =) It's a great way to use up the stash as you're doing, Nanette.

PS Saw your BOM on MoosePorch---ADORABLE!!
Love your dresdens! And that quilt is adorable. ;o) ooxx`jodi
Hi, Nan cute material. I got my eat CAKE done and Polly was at my house and she is about done with hers too. Like your new blog header.
Looks like your quilt is near completion. I think the plates will go well in place of the flowers.
