Well after my struggles last week with the whirligig, Jodi of Pleasant Home came to my rescue!! Thanks so much Jodi. I totally get by with a little help from my friends. And this made all the difference in the world.
Jodi has these whirligig templates that she sells in her Etsy store (so inexpensive!). And she sent them to me. I don't really know how I'd ever do this again without them. And this is now my new favorite block. When things go the right way, quilting is just so much fun.
I'm using Jodi's templates to make the whirligigs in the quilt I'm finishing up for my sister Michelle. Michelle has some embroidered blocks she made that need some companion quilt blocks to put together for complete project.
It is nice to cut these out and have a few moments here and there to sew them together. I'm afraid I made more blocks than I need but now I'm ahead on my next project. Thanks again Jodi. They worked out perfectly.

"Nanny" sounds perfect! Hope it sticks and Happy Birthday to Laurie! You have such beautiful kids :)
Nanny Nanette. It's catchy!
Jodi really has some amazing ideas. How nice of her to send you the templates. I love that block too.
We missed you last night but knew you were off holding baby Allison.
Yeah for the templates! They are so easy.
Nanny is most common in Newfoundland... I never hear of having a grandma or grammy
Although, to go with Nanny there is Poppy... which I had one set of, my maternal grandparents.
On my father's side it's traditional to call the male Grampy... So I had Nanny and Grampy
that's history I'm sure you didn't want to know lol! Congrats! and have fun
Oh, this is going to be one great quilt! I love Jodi's templates...I bought one from her awhile ago, and it saved me hours in squaring up some blocks!
Hooray! Your blocks look awesome! Thank you for such kind words. ;o) ooxx`jodi
Just finished catching up on all the posts I have missed through Oct. 22.
Boy Oct. sure is a busy month for you between the wedding, birthday and a new grandbaby. Whew. And now the holidays will be here. Congratulations on the new grandbaby. How exciting. You are a nanny. And it is so sweet that they used your moms name for her middle name.
Nanny Nanette. It couldn't be anything but that.
That is going to be one cute quilt with the whirly gigs and embroidered blocks. They compliment one another perfectly.
Your new grand baby is darling.
I would like to make a whilygig quilt someday. I'll have to look in to thouse templates.
Looks intriguing Nanette.
Will there be more baby pics soon???
I like Nanny - since you are Nanette, that's a natural. I had a Nana who's real name was Anna and everyone called her Nan. With these templates does the fabric still need to be right side up when cutting it?
I like Nanny too! I'm off to check out these templates of Jodi's, how lovely that she sent them to you xo
Nanette, your quilt is coming along so nicely. The whirlygigs are going to be perfect with the stitcheries :)
Oh this is going to be a super fun quilt and now that you've got some super great templates to work with - Wow! extra fun. I'm going to have to check that out me-self!
Oh, I LOVE it when a plan comes together. When it all works right, it's just the best feeling in the world! Your blocks look great, and I really like your sister's embroidery. So cute! Have fun with your sweet granddaughter.
Yes, Nanette, I love that post ahead feature too, thanks to your guidance. I love the new blocks you are making and that cute little stitchery block is so cute. Hope your are having fun with the new grandbaby!!
Happy bday to all of the Oct. bdays. I'm a Mimi but i like Nanny too.
I love that block! Jodi's a sweetheart!!!
Love the colors of your quilt. The whirligigs and the stitchery's will be so cute together.
The blocks look much better right way round. How lovley of Jodi. I don't much go for grandma either, I'm Nana.
congratulations Nanette on your whirlygig success! It's looking great!
Nanny is so much younger sounding than Grandma. Bet you really enjoyed you time with the new baby.
The embroidery is cute, looking forward to seeing the finished top.
Those templates are GREAT! Thanks for the link!!
Enjoy the little one!
I love your whirly gig blocks but I really love that little embroidered doggy. Toooo cute.
Love your whirly gigs!! I still haven't figured out how to post ahead of time, do you think it's because I use "old" blogger?
I like Nanny much better, Nanette! How nice of Jodi to send you the whirly gig templates - I do love templates if they're available for any project I make!
Cheers!
i love whirlygigs!! have a happy weekend nanny nanette!!
I love your whirligig blocks. That Jodi is so sweet and fun! I ordered the whirlygig templates from her a few weeks ago. I haven't had time to make any, but I hope to soon.
Nanny is so perfect for you. I didn't know what I wanted to be called when I became a grandmother. My first grand child named me herself. She and her brothers call me Mom-Mom.
Congratulations on becoming a grandmother. It's a wonderful feeling, and such a great experience to see your child become a mother. She will do well; she had a great role model: you!
