I also decided to make some stars to place somewhere in the quilt. I haven't decided where exactly I'll position them. I was making 12 red and 12 blue stars but somehow I goofed and ended up with 12 red and 14 blue.
I made 2 stars of each fabric. I'm not very good at points/flying geese. I hope when I set the blocks I don't cut off too many points.
I made 2 of each fabric in the red as well. I will probably mix them red/blue/red/blue...etc. when incorporating the stars into the quilt.
I wanted to get some fabric to represent the 4 different flags for use some way in the quilt. Of course there really isn't Slovak fabric but Bela Nad Chirochou where my paternal grandparents are from is in the very eastern part of Snina in Slovakia, very close to Ukraine. I think this fabric represents eastern Europe so I'm going to use it.
This is fabric represents my English heritage that I will use in the quilt, too. My mother's grandparents on her mother's side are from Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire in southwest England.Again, it is hard to find specific fabric to represent Denmark so I'm going to use Scandinavian fabric that represents the region. My mother's grandparents on her father's side are from Viborg and Skanderborg, Denmark.
I have several fabrics to use representing the USA and I still have to audition them with my blocks before deciding which to use. I'll use this big dot above from Moda in sashing and setting the blocks together. I haven't decided on an outer border yet and I'm thinking I will pick that when I get there. I think.
