I made this quilt when the Denise Schmidt's Flea Market Fancy came out. Broadbents, a local quilt shop, asked me to come up with a pattern to showcase the fabric. I wanted to make a simple block to really display the fabric and color variations but also have a bit of scrap look to it.
Since this line of fabric isn't all from the same color palate it already looked kind of scrappy and flea markety so I thought the different lengths of scraps sewn in a strip and placed inside the cheddar border would make the quilt look more random and more like it could have been a vintage quilt bought at a flea market somewhere. I liked the little bows the white made when blocks met, too. It was quilted by Wren Woodland and she quilts many of my larger quilts.

Sooo beautiful! The cheddar does make the whole quilt pop. Love it.
Awesome! I received 10 one yards pieces of Flea Market Fancy fabric from my family for Christmas. Not easy to find but my daughter perservered. I have ideas swirling and keep thinking Grandmother's Fan or Dresden Plate. Hmmm. Your blog has inspired me to create my own. Currently in the set-up stage.
wow - i never would have thought to use cheddar either...or even call the color yellow cheddar!!!!! lol...it's beautiful and just scrappy enough to make it one of my faves! how many quilts do you have anyway?????
AWESOME yes it makes the quilt look antique,
great job.
OH I love this quilt...
thanks so much for sharing the quilt with us.
maybe we will see more people adding that cheddar to their scrappy quilts :)

OH yes yes yes! I LOVE it! And I am a huge fan of cheddar! Ever since I read about Mary Lou Weidman's obsession with it in her Angels book years ago, and about how essential it is in her quilts! This one is just gorgeous though. And Broadbents - what a blast from the past for me! I will have to go visit there when I come back for the Summer!
How do you keep doing it? Looking at that quilt makes me want to quilt again....hard to do with a one year old crying at your foot pedal...and randomly pushing it when you least expect it!!
That pattern is DARLING!!!!
Gorgeous! love the fabric, the pattern, the colours, everything.
That's beautiful Nanette! I've never really thought about cheddar -- that's what I love about your blog -- you always make me think of wonderful new-to-me things!
I'm not normally drawn to that cheddar color either however in a quilt it's stunning. Your quilt is beautiful and I love the small inner border - perfect touch! Definitely looks like an antique quilt - one made with scraps from an overflowing basket.
Cheddar is not an easy color to find.
amazing. again.
i love that the yellow is called "cheddar" --
it makes me hungry.
Wowie, wowie, wowie!! Great pattern, and great quilt. Cheddar is such an amazing color in a quilt.
Oh Nanette I love that quilt! I am sooo glad you showed it! What a fun pattern and fabrics, I somehow missed that whole line...must have been before my fabric frenzy started lol!!!
Wonderful pattern and fabric. My favorite part is the scrappy strip border.
I love your cheddar quilt. It's wonderful. That color is hard to find but I'm seeing more of it available now.
Oh that is divine! As it scrolled into view I literally gasped! The cheddar frame sets it off magnificently. and I love the flowers!
