Parcheesi Quilt

Since I finished the hand applique for both the Bunny Hill table runner and the little dresses for the baby quilt I snooped around my sewing room today to find some new hand applique project to play with. I must always have some hand work project going all the time or I go a little nuts. If I'm watching a movie with the girls, riding in the car, or going anywhere that requires waiting - I can't stand it if I don't have some hand work to pull out. So I opened my bin of unfinished projects and found a nice little package of applique already started. I think I began this parcheesi quilt about 2-3 years ago. I am a finisher through and through and I can't remember why I put this project away in the first place. All the white squares are cut out, I have the freezer paper already ironed onto some of the feedsack prints and I even have several blocks finished. What was I thinking?

Anyway I guess it's now the right project for the right time. I love using feedsacks, as I've said over and over so this is going to be wonderful to pick back up. The template fits perfectly in some of the feedsack squares I've ordered from Glenna in the past. Using freezer paper gives the applique such a crisp edge. And the freezer paper is cut out already! I use the freezer paper templates over and over several times and iron them onto the back of the fabric until they no longer stick. Then I make more. But I have quite a few, so I may not have to make more.

I have no recollection of where I got this template to make the parcheesi quilt but there it was in the baggie with all the other pieces to make the blocks. It must have been on one of my more organized days that I put this away. So its like a gift to myself now to pick it back up again all ready to go! - nanette

eeeee! One of my favorites! I didn't know the name of this pattern, but I've made it before in miniature version. Not that I wish you had to spend a lot of time sitting and waiting, but I can't wait to see this one done. :)

Very pretty! I love th 30's fabrics and feedsacks. I have had much luck with purchasing feedsacks on E-bay. There is quite a good selection out there and the price seems to be right. It is a great way to increase your stash selection. I am looking forward to seeing your completed project!

How fun that you have a "new" project! And you didn't even have to go out and buy it - it was just sitting there waiting for you!

By the way I'm most upset that the random number generator didn't pick my number LOL You must work on that next time hehe!

The Parcheesi quilt is going to be beautiful. I really want to learn to do needleturn. I need to get to that.

This is going to be a cute quilt and how fun to find a project that's ready to go and even started, LOL. Curious about your needle turn method. Do you iron the fabric around the freezer template on the back. Then do you remove the freezer paper or cut out from behind the finished block. Does that even make sense what I just typed, LOL.

Happy Spring - Karen

My Spring Umbrella Quilt kit came today. Hurray for Nannette! Can't wait to get started. Wouldn't it be fun if I get it finished while it's still spring! Thanks Nannette for an adorable kit.
