Slippers

Now that my shoulder is 100% its time to dive back into projects. When I got up today fall was really in the air and we even had rain and lightening. I made myself hot chocolate for breakfast and started thinking about Christmas presents. I know. Groan. It's not even Halloween yet. But I like to make gifts so I need to start now. I've already been doing some early online shopping. Every year I vow to spend less and finish by December 15. It never happens but I keep trying.

A bit ago I ordered the Sew Pretty Homestyle and Sew Pretty Homestyle Christmas books hoping to find some good gift ideas to make.

So today I made these slippers. You can't tell but I did put batting in between the top layers and I did quilt around the hexigons. I'm not really sure mine look like the picture. They sewed up smaller than I thought they would be. I didn't use wool and maybe that is the problem? I don't know. I think I'll make another pair and make some design changes.

I may put minkee inside or maybe I should just go with what the pattern suggests and use wool. I might even skip the back of the slipper next time. I think if I used wool it would keep a better shape. I'll have to think about it more.

I finished the baby size of my dress quilt/pattern. Whew. Its just so close now to having everything complete.

With all the expenses in buying a new house, I am looking for gift making ideas. The slippers are darling! I love the dress quilt. My sister is looking for inspiration to use all the fabrics she saved from making her daughter's clothing and I can't wait to show her your quilt!

Those are really the cutest slippers! I think the chenille looks so nice and soft and warm. Do they fit?

I'm like the other inquiring minds who want to know...how do they fit and would you wear them around all day (I live in my slippers). They are very cute though.

Wonderful projects. I bought the first book and loved all of the projects in it. The slippers are extra darling!!! And your quilt? It's a winner and will be very popular. That's my prediction!

Also, if you wanted Thimbleanna's cookie cutter that she talked about yesterday then run over to my blog and you will find the links directly to it on ebay. Tell Flora too and your friend Laura.

Hugs, Kim

I bought the sew pretty homestyle late last summer (2007)and was so inspired by it. I picked up the older Christmas one, too, recently. I really just love the colors and designs of the book and have made some of the linen items so far. -- Michele

The slippers are fantastic - were they easy to make? Chenille is so snuggly! I have Sew Pretty Christmas Homestyle, and I think I'm going to ask my boys to get me Sew Pretty Homestyle for Christmas. I'm already working on Christmas gifts too - and fabric baskets will be featured in most of my "theme sets" !

Have you seen the Tilda snail pincushion? I fell in love with it when I started seeing pictures of it, and I'm going to see if I can come up with my own version of it :D

CUTE Slippers!! Let us know when you get the design tweaked to just the way you like it. I really dislike fussing with stuff, I like it good to go on the first try. ;)

Fall - mmmmmmmmmm. Heck, I am still waiting for AUGUST weather! What happened to that??

The dress quilt is another winner. What size is it??

Wow! You've been busy! I love the slippers - a few years back I made slippers for my friends for Christmas and they loved them! They weren't nearly as cute as yours though! I've checked out all the blogs you mentioned and was surprised to find another "Nan" in Seattle! Thanks so much - it's always a treat to see what you've been up to! The other Nanette
